AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces shelled on Sunday the town of Ain Issa and its countryside, in addition to Tel Abyad city, north of Raqqa Governorate in central northern Syria.
A military source told North Press that the center of Ain Issa and its countryside, in addition to the border city of Tel Abyad, have been shelled with about 60 shells since afternoon.
The military source said that the sporadic shelling started at 03:00 pm and caused damage to the residents’ homes.
Another source from Ain Issa said that the shelling targeted villages abutting the M4 Highway.
The source added, a Turkish drone is hovering over border villages and Ain Issa.
The town of Ain Issa and its countryside are home for more than 40.000 original inhabitants and displaced people from Tel Abyad.
In October 2019, the Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition factions, also called the Syrian National Army (SNA), launched a military offensive called Operation Peace Spring to occupy the cities of Tel Abyad and Sere Kaniye and oust the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which Ankara deems as terrorists. The operation displaced more than 300.000 of the areas’ original inhabitants, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
Ain Issa and the villages around, in addition to other areas in northern Syria, are subjected to repeated shelling by the Turkish forces and allied SNA.
