Exiting Turkish forces from Syria needs international consensus – SDC
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, co-chair of Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) Riyad Darar said exiting Turkey from Syrian lands needs an international agreement.
Darar’s remarks coincided with the third anniversary of the Turkish invasion of both Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad cities.
On October 9, 2019, the Turkish forces and their affiliated SNA factions launched a military operation against the city of Tel Abyad in the north of Raqqa and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in the north of Hasakah.
The operation, named “Peace Spring”, led to the occupation of the two cities and their countryside in addition to the displacement of more than 300.000 of the original inhabitants.
According to Darar, the operation was launched under an international consensus. “Therefore, ending the Turkish presence needs an international agreement and concerted efforts by Syrians.”
At the time, Syrians were divided regarding the operation. Darar indicated that “The international community’s silence regarding crimes committed against civilians pushes Turkey to expand and grab new Syrian territories.”
Darar added that the continued violations are contradictory to the international law and respect of sovereignty and borders of states.
