Failed rocket attack targets US forces in NE Syria

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Saturday, their forces in northeast Syria were subjected to failed rocket attack.

In a brief statement, the CENTCOM said, “A 107mm rocket attack targeting Coalition Forces near the Rumalyn Landing Zone failed.”

“The rocket did not impact inside the compound. No U.S. or partnered forces were killed or injured and neither facilities nor equipment were damaged,” the statement read.

This came two days after a helicopter raid against an ISIS senior leader near Qamishli city, and another US airstrike in northern Syria that killed ISIS deputy leader in Syria.

“Additional rockets were found at the launch origin site. CENTCOM forces are investigating the attack.”

The CENTCOM is a combatant command of the US Department of Defense. It is present in Syria since 2014 as part of Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR).

The US forces first deployed in Syria in 2015 when the campaign against ISIS started, partnering the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

There are about 900 US troops in Syria, most of them in the east.
