QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A Turkish military base located in the sub district of Zelikan in Nineveh Governorate, northern Iraqi, was targeted by several rockets on Saturday.
casualties were reported.
Shafaq News cited a source as saying that “Three rockets reportedly landed in the vicinity of a Turkish base in Duhok’s village of Bashiqa, the head of the Zelikan sub-district.”
“The rockets missed their target and landed in the vicinity of the base,” Shafaq News added.
An armed group named as Liwa Ahrar al-Iraq (Free People of Iraq Brigade or LAI), claimed responsibility for the attack.
No casualties have been reported.
The LAI said in a statement, “The base was targeted with four BM-21 Grad rockets in Mosul.”
The attacks came “to avenge the martyrs of Iraq and to deter the Turkish occupation and its criminal practices,” LAI statement added.
LAI noted that the strikes would not stop until all Turkish forces leave Iraq.
The Iraqi factions have escalated their attacks against the Turkish bases present in Iraq since the Turkish shelling of a tourist resort in Duhok Governorate last July, killing and wounding about 40 people, including children.
On June 20, the LAI announced that it had carried out four rocket strikes and two drone attacks on a Turkish base in Zelikan.
