HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Health Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) opened on Thursday a hospital in the town of Shaddadi, south OF Hasakah, northeast Syria, after it was renovated.
The hospital being the sole in the area provides health care for nearly 300.000 families from the sub-district of Arisha and Shaddadi up to Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor.
The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the SDF defeated ISIS militarily there.
A local from the area told North Press the hospital underwent damages in the battles erupted in 2013-2016 when armed forces entered the area.
In 2014, the three-storey hospital was turned into a military post by the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) when it controlled the area.
Hassan al-Ali, an official in the hospital said the hospital has several sections the most important one is emergency, obstetrics, children’s and a lab.
In mid-2020, work was commenced by the Health Board of the AANES to renovate the hospital within a period set not to exceed a year. The project cost $1.514.000.
Al-Ali added, “After a short period, a section of operations will be opened and a one for x-ray,” calling on relevant bodies and international ones do support the hospital.
The staff is made up of eight physicians and six specialists in addition to nurses, according to al-Ali.
