US-led Coalition reveals outcome of anti-ISIS raid in Syria’s Qamishli

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS revealed Thursday the outcome of an airdrop operation which took place in a village held by Syrian government in south of Qamishli, northeastern Syria.

On Thursday morning, an exclusive source told North Press that the operation took place in the village of Milouk Saray, south of Qamishli city.

US Central Command issued a statement, saying that their  forces conducted a helicopter raid near the city of Qamishli, targeting an ISIS official.

The official, the statement said, is called Rakkan Wahid al-Shammari, an ISIS leader known to facilitate the smuggling of weapons and fighters to support the organization’s operations.

During the raid, al-Shammari was killed and one of his associates was injured. “Two additional associates were detained by U.S. forces,” the statement read.

The US Central Command said “no one were injured or killed during the operation, no civilians were killed or wounded.”

The Central Command stressed its commitment to its allies in ensuring the lasting defeat of ISIS.
