12 individuals arrested in Turkish-occupied Syria’s Afrin – VDC-NSY

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Since early October, Turkish-backed armed Syrian opposition factions have arrested 12 individuals in Afrin in the northern countryside of Aleppo, north Syria, Violation Documentation Center in North Syria (VDC-NSY) said on Wednesday.

In a detailed report, the VDC-NSY revealed so-called Military Police faction arrested each of the 41-year-old Saleh al-Ahmad Jassim and the 31-year-old Talal Abdurrahman Mosa, residents of Jindires in Afrin countryside.

A number of other residents, including a woman, two of which were identified (Karmo Muhammad and Aisha Mahmud Na’san), were arrested in the village of Deir Sowan, affiliated with Sharan district, according to VDC-NSY.

The center added that the so-called Sham Legion of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) arrested each of Mahmoud Saleh Hendi and Ahmad Hamo on the entrance of the village of Berej Haydar, affiliated with Sherawa district.

The center also documented the arrest of the 28-year-old Mahmoud Hilal Khalaf, a resident of the village of Jalameh, the 38-year-old Ali Muhammad Karim, the 34-year-old Khalil Heso and Hessi Abdurrahman Hesso, residents of the village of Ashkan, affiliated with Jindires.

A group of the Military Police stormed the village of Mirkan, affiliated with Mabatli district, and arrested a number of residents, of whom Midya Jondi and Tolin Jondi were known.

Since early this year, the areas occupied by Turkey and its affiliated armed SNA factions have witnessed 603 arrest cases in addition to different human rights violations, according to the center.

Afrin, a Kurdish city in the north of Aleppo, has been under the control of Turkey since March 2018 following a military operation called “Olive Branch” which resulted in the displacement of about 300.000 people of the original inhabitants of the city and its countryside.

The SNA-held areas in northern Syria continue to witness insecurity, instability and chaos due to the factions’ failure to hold the situation under control.
