Syrian Government, Opposition resume shelling in Syria’s northwest
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – De-escalation zone in the countryside of Aleppo, Idlib and Latakia in northwest Syria witnessed on Wednesday mutual shelling between Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA).
An opposition source told North Press that the government forces targeted with artillery shells and rockets opposition positions in the villages and towns of Fatterah, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra, Fleifel, Deir Sunbul, Benin, al-Ruweiha, al-Bara and San in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib.
The source added that the government forces also targeted the villages and towns of al-Wasatah, al-Qasr, Bahlafis, Kafr Amma, Tuqad, Kafr Nouran, and Kafr Taal in the western countryside of Aleppo.
Meanwhile, a source in the National Front for Liberation told North Press that “al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room targeted with heavy artillery outposts of the government forces in Base 46, west of Aleppo, and Abu Ali Mountain, north of Latakia.”
Al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room includes the National Front for Liberation, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Jaysh al-Izza. The military bloc is active in northwest Syria in general.
The areas in the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria continue to witness daily exchange of bombardment between the SNA factions and the government forces, despite being part of the ceasefire agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in March 2020, which stipulates a halt of military action in Idlib.
