QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government will open tomorrow Thursday in Suwayda Governorate, southern Syria, the first settlement center in the governorate.
The Syrian state-run SANA news agency, citing an official in the governorate, said that the first center in Suwayda would open Thursday in the “Seventh of Nisan Hall” (seventh of April) in the city center.
The center will work to regularize the legal status of civilians and military personnel who are covered by the amnesty decrees, including deserters and those who have dodged conscription and reserve duty, SANA added.
The source invited those willing to regularize to go to the settlement center at 10 am, bringing with them two personal photos, and a copy of their ID.
Last Thursday, local dignitaries and leaders of local factions in Suwayda met with officers and high-ranking officials of the Syrian government. The meeting ended without reaching any agreement, according to what local sources told North Press.
On Friday, Sheikh AL-Karama Forces, a local armed faction in Suwayda concerned with protecting the governorate’s population, commented on the aforementioned meeting, saying, “Any attack on the residents by any party will be met with an immediate response.”
The faction said they would not allow anybody to touch any citizen – who has dodged compulsory service – within Suwayda Governorate.
On September 5, the Syrian government opened the first settlement center in Idlib in the town of Khan Shaykhun to receive wanted military and civilian persons from the region.
