Syrian government announces number of cholera cases in country

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Ministry of Health of the Syrian government announced Tuesday the total number of confirmed cases of cholera in 11 Syrian governorates.

According to the ministry’s statement, 594 confirmed cholera cases have been recorded throughout Syria.

The infections are recorded as follows: 389 in Aleppo, 84 in Deir ez-Zor, 45 in Hasakah, 26 in Raqqa, 21 in Latakia, nine in Suwayda, seven in Hama, six in Homs, three in Daraa and one in Qunaitra.

The death toll reached 39: 34 in Aleppo, three in Hasakah and two in Deir ez-Zor, according to the ministry. 

The ministry said that most “deaths are caused due to being late in seeking medical advice.”

On 10 September, the Syrian Ministry of Health declared an outbreak of cholera in Aleppo Governorate following 15 confirmed laboratory cases, including one death.
