4 militants of government-affiliated militia killed in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Four members of National Defense Forces (NDF) was killed and two others were wounded in a town of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
The NDF is a military formation that was founded by the Syrian government and fought along with it during the years of war.
A military source of the NDF in the town of al-Boleel, 15 km east of Deir ez-Zor said that unidentified gunmen riding motorbike targeted a van with machineguns.
The van was carrying NDF members close to the main road in the entrance of the Boleel town.
As a result, four members were killed including the leader Obaida al-Ani and two others were injured.
Iranian-backed militias and the government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which constitutes a source of concern as it witnesses intensive operations by ISIS sleeper cells.
On Monday, clashes erupted between unknown gunmen, expected to be of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS), and militants of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, which resulted in the injury of six members of the IRGC and the killing of two militants of the Lions of the East Army faction (Jaysh Usud al-Sharqiya), a government-backed faction.
