Turkey shells villages north of Syria’s Raqqa

AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA), shelled on Monday the border villages with Turkey in the countryside of Tel Abyad, north of Raqqa in northern Syria.

The shelling with mortars and artillery also affected villages in the countryside of Ain Issa town and M4 Highway, north of Raqqa, a local source told North Press.

The shelling caused material damage to the civilians’ houses and led to a wave of displacement from the border villages, the source said.

Following the Turkish incursion in October 2019, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US stipulating ceasing all hostilities and the withdrawal of the SDF 32 km away from the Turkish border.

Ain Issa and other areas in northern Syria constantly witness shelling by the Turkish forces and their affiliated SNA factions.
