Government, Opposition Resume Mutual Shelling In Syria’s Northwest

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – De-escalation zone in the countryside of Aleppo, Idlib and Latakia in northwest Syria witnessed on Monday, mutual shelling between Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA).

An opposition source informed North Press, the government forces, using artillery shells and rockets, targeted opposition positions in the villages and towns of Fatterah, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra, Benin and Ruweiha in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib.

The source added that the government forces also targeted the villages and towns of Tuqad, Kafr Taal, Kafr Amma, Maklabis, and Sheikh Salman in the western countryside of Aleppo.

Meanwhile, a source in the National Front for Liberation told North Press that al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room targeted, with heavy artillery, the government forces’ posts in al-Qarmeel Hills, Rasho, north of Latakia, and Dadikh east of Idlib.

For months, the areas in the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria continue to witness daily exchange of bombardment between the SNA factions and the government forces, despite being part of the ceasefire agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in March 2020, which stipulates a halt of all military actions in Idlib.
