Turkish forces shell number of villages in Syria’s Hasakah
TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces and their affiliated Syrian opposition factions, also called the Syrian National Army (SNA), shelled on Monday number of villages in north of Hasakah, northeastern Syria.
A source in the Tel Tamr Military Council, affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), told North Press that the Turkish artillery shelled the villages of Quboor al-Qarajneh in the vicinity of Tel Tamr town, north of Hasakah.
The shelling resulted in material damage to residents’ properties, according to the source.
Tel Tamr, which has a population of about 25.000 and is 30 km away from the Syrian-Turkish border, is of strategic importance as it is a junction on the M4 Highway linking Hasakah Governorate in northeast Syria to Aleppo Governorate in northwest.
The town has been under constant attack by Turkish forces and allied SNA for more than two years.
On Saturday, Turkish forces and their affiliated SNA shelled the countryside of Tel Tamr, causing power outage in electrical substations due to damage in high-voltage lines.
The center of the nearby town of Zirgan (Abu Rasin), and the village of al-Bobi in the town’s western countryside were subjected to similar shelling, but only material damage was reported.
Since the beginning of October 2021, the villages situated on the contact lines – separating the Turkish forces and SNA factions from the SDF – in Tel Tamr countryside have been repeatedly subjected to Turkish shelling, destroying civilians’ houses, damaging vital facilities, and cemeteries belonging to the Tel Tamr’s predominant Assyrian community.
