3 people killed, 1 injured in different areas in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, two people were killed and one was injured in separate armed attacks while a body of a man was identified. All incidents took place in Daraa Governorate, south Syria.
A local source told North Press, “A Syrian government soldier was killed in an armed attack carried out by unknown gunmen in the town of Ibtta in the central countryside of Daraa.”
The source added, “Mahmoud Ahmed Ali Safar was shot by unknown gunmen near al-Rawda Mosque in Ibtta. He was transferred to the Azraa National Hospital in the eastern countryside of Daraa and died there.”
Similarly, a former member of the Syrian opposition was shot dead in the town of Tasil in the western countryside of Daraa.
Another local source told North Press, “Ali Karim al-Naasan was killed after unknown attackers riding two motorcycles opened fire on him in Tasil.”
“Al-Naasan was taken to the Nawa National Hospital in the western countryside of Daraa, and succumbed to his wounds there,” he added.
He continued, “Al-Naasan served in the Syrian opposition factions before engaging in the July 2018 settlement agreement. After that, he did not join any military or security formation.”
In July 2018, the Syrian opposition armed factions and government forces reached a settlement agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas in Daraa Governorate. Under the deal, the opposition militants who agreed to hand over their heavy weapons were handed a settlement card and allowed to stay in Daraa, while those opposed the agreement would go to Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front).
Meanwhile, a body, which was found on Sunday in Daraa central countryside, was identified today by his wife.
An eyewitness informed North Press that “the wife of the young man Fayez Abdullatif al-Rifai, 30, identified him at the Izraa National Hospital.”
The eyewitness added, “Al-Rifai, who hails from the town of Jasim in the northern countryside of Daraa, was kidnapped a week ago by unidentified gunmen on the outskirts of the town.”
He said that the residents found on Sunday morning the “decayed body” of al-Rifai near al-Sheikh Maskin dam in the central countryside of Daraa.
The eyewitness stated, “Al-Rifai was a civilian who worked on a small truck that he was driving when he was kidnapped, and he did not join any military formation.”
Moving to the city of Nawa in Daraa western countryside, a source told North Press that “Mohammed Ismail al-Mufaalani was targeted by unidentified gunmen near the automated bakery in the city center.”
The source said that al-Mufaalani was transferred to the Nawa National Hospital, adding that his condition is “serious.”
On Wednesday, unknown attackers opened fire on al-Mufaalani’s home, but he survived the attack, the same source said, noting that al-Mufaalani works with the Syrian government forces.
Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with one or two daily assassinations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
