Turkish-backed Military Police assaults journalist in Syria’s Afrin
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – A member of the Turkish-backed Military Police assaulted on Monday a journalist in the city of Afrin, northern Syria.
A man named Abu Zayd Sharqia – a former militant in Ahrar al-Sharqia, an armed faction in the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) – assaulted Hadi Tatin who works as a correspondent for the Syrian opposition network “Syria TV”, and his colleague Khalid al-Habal.
The SNA leader beat, reviled and made death threats to both journalists in al-Buhar street in Afrin’s city center.
Tatin posted a video, in which he was crying, on his Facebook page saying that while he was waiting for his wife in his car, the leader assaulted him under the pretext of passing his vehicle and delaying him while waiting for his wife.
Fellow journalist Obada Koujan condemned Abu Zayd’s actions against his colleagues, calling it a “cowardly act.”
The SNA-held areas in northern Syria continue to witness insecurity, instability and chaos due to the factions’ failure to hold the situation under control.
