Mersin PKK operation was American-based – Turkish minister
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkish Minister of Interior, Suleiman Soylu, said late on Saturday that an attack targeted a post of the Turkish police in the city of Mersin was planned in the United States and carried out by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) which has been fighting Turkey for four decades.
On September 24, a Turkish soldier was killed and another injured in an attacked carried out by the PKK in Mezitli district in Mersin in south Turkey, according to Anadolu Agency.
Soylu said the two female attackers moved on a motorized parachute from the Syrian city of Manbij and after a 13-hour-journey they landed on shores of the Turkish city of Tarsus close to Mersin.
The attack was planned by the US which had requested the serial numbers of the firearms used in the attack from the Turkish police, according to Soylu.
In recent years, the Turkish forces increased its security measures on the border with Syria and lately increased its drone flights.
PKK which claimed the attack rejected that one Turkish soldier was killed saying the Turkish minister conceals the number of deaths affirming that several police members were killed in the attack without mentioning the number.
In a statement, the PKK said Roken and Sara were able to reach a police post in Mezitli and clashed face to face with police members which was followed by a “suicide,” against “Turkish occupation state.”
In 2014 the two parties started “fragile” peace talks which collapsed in summer of 2015.
