CENTOM condemns Iranian attacks on Kurdistan Region

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The US Central Command (CENTCOM) condemned Iranian attacks on areas on Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), that claimed the lives of 13 people and injured about 58 others.

US CENTCOM spokesperson, Joe Buccino, released a statement in which he condemned the Iranian attack saying, “Such indiscriminate attacks threaten innocent civilians and risk the hard-fought stability of the region.”

“US forces brought down an Iranian Mojer-6 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle headed in the direction of Erbil as it appeared as a threat to CENTCOM forces in the area,” Buccino added.

He added that their forces operating in Iraq “assist and enable partner forces in the ensuring the lasting defeat of ISIS.”

One September 28, two individuals, at least, were killed and about 15 others were wounded in the Iranian attack on a site of an anti-Iran Kurdish group in Koya in the KRI.

On the same day, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs “strongly” condemned the Iranian rocket attacks.

In addition, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) bloc in Iraqi parliament condemned the Iranian attack.

The KDP indicated, in a statement, that the Iranian attack is an export of internal crises and a flight forward.

The statement called the federal government to take a firm stance against the Iranian attacks.

Since September 16, dozens of Iranian cities have witnessed massive demonstrations, denouncing the killing of a Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in the custody of Iranian police.

Since September 24, Iranian forces have shelled several border areas in the KRI, under the pretext of targeting military sites for anti-Iranian forces.
