Autonomous Administration in Syria’s Qamishli condemns Turkish drone strike

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, the Executive Council of the Jazira Region condemned the Turkish bombardment that claimed the lives of two of its officials on Tuesday.

The Jazira Region is an administrative division affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) that includes the cities of Qamishli, Hasakah, Derik (al-Malikiyah) and their countryside.

The Jazira Region said in its statement that the Turkish strike coincided with security and military operations in the region to put an end to the Islamic State (ISIS) activities.

On Tuesday, Zaynab Sarokhan and Yilmaz Rasho, co-chairs of the AANES Justice and Reform Office, lost their lives in the Turkish drone strike that targeted their car in the village of Deir Jamal in east of Qamishli.

“Turkey seeks to destabilize the region, undermine efforts to end ISIS activities, empty the region of its original inhabitants and strike the AANES,” the statement read.
