SNA factions commit assaults against residents in Syria’s Afrin

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), continue to commit assaults against residents in the city of Afrin, north of Syria’s Aleppo.

Mercenaries of the Turkish-backed Levant Front faction kidnapped Muhammad Khello, a pharmacist, after raiding his house and brutally assaulting him in Ashrafiyah neighborhood in the city of Afrin.

The so-called “economic committee,” operates under the umbrella of the SNA, imposed $55.000 on Mabata district, in Afrin countryside of the olive crop including the village of Mirkan with about $10.000.

In Bulbul district, north of Afrin, mercenaries of Elite Army (Jaysh al-Nukhbah) and Sultan Murad Division, affiliated with the SNA, imposed royalties estimated at 10% of the crops on olive groves’ owners and 25% of production on mills’ owners.

In Sherawa district, in Afrin southern countryside, the economic committee confiscated the properties of Afrini IDPs in Shahba region (Aleppo northern countryside) and refugees in Europe.

The northern countryside of Aleppo Governorate, also known as Shahba region, houses IDPs of the Kurdish city of Afrin which was occupied in 2018 by Turkey following a military operation called “Olive Branch” to push away the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) under the pretext of protecting Turkey’s “national security”.

In addition, the “economic committee” imposed royalties on the owners of olive groves and mills.

On September 25, the so-called “Olive Branch Chamber of Agriculture,” issued resolution 54 and 55, which include imposing royalties on olive mills and oil traders in Afrin.

Resolution 54 included imposing royalties on olive mills, amounting to $250 to renew the annual license of operating mills, and $800 to operate mills that had not previously worked or were newly established.

While resolution 55 obligated all oil traders to obtain an “oil dealer” license, and obligated them to deliver the oil to the company of TARIM KREDİ – Farm Credit, in addition to imposing royalty of $350 to obtain a “trader’s license.”
