2 Syrian soldiers killed in blast in Homs

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two soldiers of Syrian government forces were killed on Monday in an IED explosion on the highway in Palmyra Desert in the eastern countryside of Homs Governorate, east Syria.

A government military source said two soldiers of the Infantry Division of the 17th Brigade of the government forces lost their lives as their “zil” vehicle on the Palmyra Desert highway was targeted by an IED.

The source told North Press that the “zil” vehicle was heading to a military post to be provided with oil where it was targeted by an IED planted by unknown people close to the highway which burned the two soldiers inside.

In the aftermath, the government forces deployed military reinforcements to the region.

The Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias control large swathes of the Syrian Desert and east of Deir ez-Zor that have recently witnessed clashes with militants of the Islamic State (ISIS).

On September 12, unknown gunmen targeted a patrol of Iranian-backed Quds Brigade in the Palmyra Desert in which four members lost their lives and others were injured.
