ISIS claims two attacks against SDF in northeast Syria

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State Organization (ISIS) claimed on Saturday night the responsibility for launching two attacks against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor countryside, northeast Syria.

The ISIS-run Amaq news agency said in a statement that militants of the group targeted a military patrol of the SDF close to the town of al-Kabar in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

As a result, an SDF fighter lost his life and three others were wounded. The ISIS militants managed to move back to their sites, Amaq added.

In another statement, ISIS claimed another operation against the SDF in Hasakah countryside, saying its militants attacked a military patrol of the SDF close to the town of al-Ghazilah.

A number of the SDF fighters lost their lives and wounded, and two of their military vehicles were destroyed, Amaq said.

The operation was carried out on September 20, and ISIS claimed it on Saturday.

Assassinations and murders in the surrounding countryside of Deir ez-Zor have recently increased targeting the SDF fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), tribal dignitaries and civilians despite intensive security campaigns launched by SDF.

The SDF keeps pursuing ISIS sleeper cells in Deir ez-Zor countryside with the aim to maintain security and stability of the region.

Since the beginning of 2022, ISIS claimed about 140 attacks against the SDF in northeast Syria’s areas, most of them in Deir ez-Zor governorate.
