SDF Commander in Chief expresses solidarity with Iran’s Protests
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander in Chief, Mazloum Abdi, condemned the killing of Mahsa Amini (Zhina), considering the incident a “moral failure” of the ruling authorities in Iran.
On twitter, Abdi expressed solidarity with the ongoing protests in Iran, saying, “The Kurdish and woman issues must be resolved in appropriate ways.”
Mahsa Amini was killed by the morality police after receiving a deadly blow at the head while she was on a visit to her maternal uncle on September 16, according to her family.
She was arrested as she did not abide by the Muslim attire codes in the Islamic Republic, as the authorities alleged.
Abdi also offered condolences to Amini’s family and the Kurdish people.
Protests erupted when the body of Amini was transferred from Tehran to her birth place in the town of Saqez south Iran on September 17, in the funeral procession in hundreds of locals took part.
The protests were met with violent crackdown by the Iranian authorities and resulted in nine deaths, including a woman, as hundreds of others were injured.
Opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC) also condemned on Friday the incident and stressed support for the protests’ “rightful demands for equality and democracy.”
While the Syrian government, Iran’s ally in Syrian war, described the protests as “riots” with the US and the Zionist entity being behind these acts.
