Government, opposition continue to exchange shelling in Syria’s northwest
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Areas in the de-escalation zone in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo, northwest Syria, witnessed on Friday ongoing exchange of shelling between Syrian government forces and opposition factions.
Military sources of the opposition told North Press militants of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) attacked the government forces in their sites in the village of Jdaria west of Aleppo.
The source added that the attack developed in fierce clashes between the government forces and HTS amid intensive shelling between the two parties.
As a result of the clashes, casualties were reported from both parties.
The opposition sites in the villages and towns of Blents, Maklabis, al- Habatah, Tadil, Kafr Amma, Kafr Taal, Tuqad, al-Wasata, outskirts of Kafr Nouran west of Aleppo were subjected to shelling, wounding five individuals, according to the sources.
Similar shelling targeted the villages of Fatterah, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra, Fleifel, al-Ruweiha, Benin and Deir Sunbul in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, the same sources said.
In response, the opposition factions targeted the government forces’ positions in the villages and towns of Mizanaz, Jdaria, Base 46 and Basrton west of Aleppo and Milaja south of Idlib.
The areas in the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria continue to witness daily exchange of bombardment between the SNA factions and the government forces, despite being part of the ceasefire agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in March 2020, which stipulates a halt of military action in Idlib.
