Syria’s AANES hands over child to Yezidi house
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) handed over on Tuesday a Yezidi child to the Yezidi House in Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria.
The Yezidi House will hand over the child, who hails from the city of Sinjar in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), to his family later.
This came in a joint statement by the Child Protection House of the Women’s Board and the Yezidi House in Jazira region.
Suleiman Hamo, co-chair of the Yezidi House, told North Press that they have received the 16-year-old child, Mazen Jardo.
Jardo is in good condition, and he will be handed over to his relatives soon, according to Hamo.
Hamo added that the child had stayed in the Child Protection House for three years, since his arrival from the town of Baghouz the last stronghold of the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) in Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
ISIS lost its final stronghold in Syria in March 2019. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), with the support of the US-led Global Coalition, defeated ISIS after fierce battles in the town of Baghouz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate declared by the terrorist ISIS.
He did not mention the reason for Jardo being kept in the house.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) managed to liberate dozens of Yezidi children and women who were kidnapped during the Sinjar massacres in 2014 by ISIS.
The Yezidi House returned children and women to their families in Sinjar in coordination with the SDF and AANES.
Jardo said that he has been away from his family since his kidnapping by ISIS.
He added that ISIS taught him how to fight, use weapons and explosive belts.
So far, the Yezidi House has returned 416 individuals to Sinjar since the ISIS attack in 2014, according to statistics.
The AANES was first formed in 2014 in the Kurdish-majority regions of Afrin, Kobani and Jazira in northern Syria following the withdrawal of the government forces. Later, it was expanded to Manbij, Tabqa, Raqqa, Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor after the SDF defeated ISIS militarily there.
