Russia conducts one-sided patrol in Syria’s Hasakah

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Russian Military Police (MP) conducted on Tuesday, for the third time, a one-sided patrol without Turkish participation on the contact lines in the countryside of the town of Derbasiyah, north of Hasakah in northeastern Syria.

An exclusive source told North Press that the patrol consisted of four vehicles and two helicopters and set off at 9:00 am from the Russian base in the town of Amuda, 20 km west of Qamishli, heading to Derbasiyah.

The patrol headed east towards the dividing line between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA).

The patrol passed through Derbasiyah to return later to its base, the source added.

The patrol comes in tandem with a military escalation that the region has been witnessing for days by Turkey.

On September 5, the Russian MP conducted the 111th joint patrol with Turkish forces in the eastern countryside of Kobani, north Syria.

Following the Turkish incursion in Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad in October 2019, Turkey signed two ceasefire agreements, one with Russia and the other with the US stipulating ceasing all hostilities, launching joint patrols, and the withdrawal of the SDF 32 km away from the Turkish border.
