Emergency cell to deal with cholera in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Director of al-Kasra Hospital, west of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria, said on Tuesday that they had formed an emergency cell from hospital nurses and doctors to deal with the increasing infections of cholera.

Tareq al-Ibrahim, director of al-Kasra Hospital said that the emergency cell which includes doctors and nurses will work separately.

On September 16, Muhammad al-Salem, co-chair of the Health Committee in the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) said that the suspected cases of cholera reached 300 in hospitals and health centers in Deir ez-Zor Governorate.

“We moved the cholera department to equipped rooms behind the hospital building, so that it does not affect the work of other departments, such as ambulances, outpatient clinics, and others,” al-Ibrahim told North Press.

The purpose to form the emergency cell was to treat infected cases so that they do not mix with other patients in the hospital, according to al-Ibrahim.

He pointed out that this cell works under the supervision of the Health Committee of the Deir ez-Zor Civil Council, administrators, and a specialized team of nurses and doctors.

On September 10, the AANES recorded three deaths of cholera disease.

The AANES said that the cholera has mainly spread in Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor due to contaminated drinking water.
