Investigation continues on attack at Green Village in eastern Syria – CJTFOIR

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTFOIR) Commander Maj. Gen. Matthew McFarlane said an investigation into an attempted “indirect fire struck in the vicinity of Green Village” in eastern Syria is ongoing.

This came in a statement, in which McFarlane said the attempted attack was launched to hit “our coalition forces and partners.”

On September 18, several rockets targeted the US military base (the Green Village) in northeastern Syria, but failed to hit forces or equipment.

“A rocket attack targeting the Green Village base in northeast Syria failed to strike US or Coalition forces or equipment,” the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in statement on September 18.

The CJTFOIR commander noted that the attack “endangered numerous civilian lives.” However, “There were no casualties or damage to infrastructure.”

“Actions like this are irresponsible and are attempts to distract our Partner Forces from their mission to clear ISIS,” the commander added.

On August 16, the CJTFOIR said that rounds of rockets were fired towards the Green Village, referring to the al-Omar oil field in northeast Syria.

The CJTFOIR said in a statement that the rockets were fired shortly after 9 pm on August 15, noting “it did endanger the local civil population and infrastructure.”

On January 5, the Green Village was also subjected to a round of eight rockets fired by Iranian-backed militias causing material damages to the base and to a mosque nearby.

Maj. Gen. Matthew McFarlane stressed that such an “unsuccessful attack, or others like it, would not divert effort from the mission.”

He ensured the US-led Global Coalition and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) commitment “to the mission – maintaining the ongoing defeat of ISIS,” and that they will not be distracted.
