Government officer injured in IED blast in Syria’s Daraa

DARRA, Syria (North Press) – An officer of Syrian government forces was injured on Monday due to the explosion of an IED in the eastern countryside of Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.

The source told North Press that unidentified gunmen targeted the car of Major Amjad Ibrahim .

They planted the IED on al-Majbil road, east of the town Of Mhajjah, east of Daraa.

Ibrahim was transferred to the National Hospital in the town of Izraa, in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

Ibrahim’s condition was described as stable, the source added.

The officer hails from Latakia and was responsible for the State Security Branch of the government forces in the town of Mhajjah, according to the same source.

On Sunday, a soldier of the Syrian government forces was killed by unidentified gunmen in the town of Ain Thakar west of Daraa.

He cooperated with the government Air Force Intelligence Branch and the Lebanese Hezbollah on the regard of the assassination issue.

Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with one or two daily assassinations targeting soldiers and officers of the government forces, not to mention the spread of thefts.
