ISIS claims responsibility for attacking SDF in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State Organization (ISIS) claimed on Thursday responsibility for targeting water truck of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the town of al-Shuhail, 40 km east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

The ISIS-run Amaq News Agency published a statement in which it said that ISIS militants “targeted an SDF water truck on the main road in the village of al-Tugeihi with machineguns.”

“The attack resulted in the killing of the driver, Ahmad al-Harib, and the injury of another,” the statement added.

Although the SDF launches intensive security operations, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has recently witnessed an increase in killing incidents carried out against SDF fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration, tribal figures and civil residents.

Since the beginning of this year, ISIS claimed responsibility of 132 attacks against SDF forces, most of them in Deir ez-Zor, according to statistics made by North Press.

The SDF keeps pursuing ISIS sleeper cells in Deir ez-Zor eastern countryside with the aim to maintain security and stability of the region.

On September 10, ISIS carried out an operation against SDF in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor describing the operation as “revenge” for ISIS family members in Hawl Camp.
