Government, opposition exchange shelling in Syria’s northwest
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – De-escalation zone in the countryside of Aleppo, Hama and Idlib in northwest Syria witnessed on Wednesday mutual shelling between Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA).
According to what an opposition source told North Press, the government forces targeted with artillery shells and rockets opposition positions in the villages and towns of Fatterah, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra, Benin, Fleifel al-Ruweiha and al-Bara in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib.
The source said that the government forces also shelled positions in the villages and towns of al-Habatah, Tuqad, Kafr Taal, Maklabis, Kafr Amma, Kafr Nouran, al-Wasatah, al-Qasr and Sheikh Suleiman in the western countryside of Aleppo, as well as the villages of Khirbat al-Naqus and al-Ankawi in al-Ghab Plain, west of Hama.
Meanwhile, a source in the National Front for Liberation told North Press that al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room targeted with heavy artillery the government forces’ positions in Tanjara in al-Ghab Plain, west of Hama, and Base 46 in western Aleppo.
Al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room includes the National Front for Liberation, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Jaysh al-Izza. The military bloc is active in northwest Syria in general.
For months, the areas in the de-escalation zone in northwestern Syria, especially in south of Idlib and west of Aleppo, continue to witness daily exchange of bombardment between the SNA factions and the government forces, despite being part of the ceasefire agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in March 2020, which stipulates a halt of all military actions in Idlib.
