Asayish member loses life in clash in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZR, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday a member of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) succumbed to injuries he sustained during an armed attack with wanted individuals in a town east of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
A military source from the Asayish told North Press a patrol of the Asayish stormed the town of Abu Hamam, 85 kilometers east of Deir ez-Zor, on Tuesday at dawn, with the aim to arrest wanted individuals on charges of killing an Asayish member days ago.
Clashes with machineguns erupted between the two parties after the wanted refused to surrender to the patrol.
The source added the clashes claimed the life of an Asayish member, who hails from the town of al-Bahra in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, and wounded another slightly.
The source stressed that the security forces cordoned the neighborhood and “managed to arrest those involved in the attack on the patrol.”
The areas in Deir ez-Zor witness weapons proliferation among the residents, thus killings during tribal fights are periodically reported.
Although the SDF launches intensive security operations, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has recently witnessed an increase in killing incidents carried out against SDF members, employees of the Autonomous Administration, tribal figures and civil residents.
The SDF keeps pursuing ISIS sleeper cells in Deir ez-Zor eastern countryside with the aim to maintain security and stability of the region.
