Armed attack claims lives of 4 Iranian-backed militants

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown gunmen targeted on Monday a patrol of Iranian-backed Quds Force, claiming the lives of four militants and injuring four others in Palmyra Desert, east of Homs in eastern Syria.

A military source of the Quds Force told North Press that unknown gunmen targeted a military patrol of the Quds Force consisting of two four-wheel drive vehicles and a car with an RPG.

Following the targeting, clashes with machineguns broke out for a while, claiming the lives of four militants, including Iraqis, and injuring four others of the Quds Force, according to the source.

Shortly after the attack, the Iranian-backed militias and Syrian government forces brought in huge military reinforcements, in addition to helicopters to comb the desert and pursue the attackers.

The Iranian-backed factions along with Syrian government forces control large swathes of the Syrian Desert and east countryside of Deir ez-Zor that witnessed recently battles with Islamic State Organization (ISIS).

On September 8, two Iranian-backed militants were killed and three others were injured in a machinegun attack against a military post of the Iranian-backed militias near the town of Sukhna east of Homs.
