QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Media office of the Syrian Ministry of Health announced on Monday that cholera infections have risen to 26 confirmed cases.
The ministry’s media office published a post on its official Facebook account saying that the number of confirmed cholera cases has reached 26: 20 in Aleppo, four in Latakia and two in Damascus coming from Aleppo.
The ministry said that unlike what other media outlets have circulated, there are no cholera-caused deaths in Damascus.
Earlier on Monday, a medical source from Al-Razi Governmental Hospital in Aleppo city revealed to North Press that a new death from cholera had been recorded for a five-year-old child from the southern countryside of Aleppo.
On Sunday, the same source said that they had recorded two deaths of cholera and 35 confirmed cases, making the total death toll three.
However, the Syrian Ministry of Health said that there are only two deaths in Aleppo “due to delay in seeking medical advice and having accompanying chronic diseases.”
The ministry added that it would give cholera-related updates every 48 hours.
