Relief organizations withdraw from camp in Syria’s Hasakah following blast

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) Most of the international relief organizations and local associations working in Washokani camp, west of Hasakah in northeastern Syria, temporarily withdrew their staff on Monday, following a motorcycle explosion there.

The blast, which took place near a medical center in the camp on Monday afternoon, killed a young man and injured four others, with the cause of the accident yet to be known.

Immediately after the explosion, the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) deployed many of its members at the site, and initiated an investigation.

Three of the wounded were transferred to al-Hikma Hospital in Hasakah city; the fourth was treated at the medical center in the camp. The body of the young man, whose identity is still unknown, was transferred to the morgue of the Hasakah National Hospital, according to informed sources.

An exclusive source told North Press that the organizations’ staffs received emails asking them to immediately leave the camp until everything is cleared.

Washokani camp, which contains around 15.000 people, was established in October 2019 to house displaced people from Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) following the Turkish invasion of the city in the same month.
