4 soldiers of government injured in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria ( North Press) – On Monday, four soldiers of Syrian government forces were injured slightly as their patrol was hit by an IED in the town of al-Muzayrib, west of Daraa in southern Syria.

A local source told North Press that unknown men targeted a patrol of the Syrian government forces with an IED that led to four injuries upon which they were transferred to Daraa National Hospital.

The source added that the explosion was followed by extensive firing by the soldiers of the patrol and that members of security apparatuses were deployed to the area in search for attackers.

Cars were inspected and documents held by drivers and passengers were screened.

The source pointed out that the patrol was a “joint” one having members from a number of security branches that spot the area on almost daily bases.

Since the government forces re-captured Daraa in 2018, the governorate has been living in a state of insecurity, with assassinations, arrests and thefts taking place on a daily basis.

In July 2018, the opposition armed factions and government forces reached a settlement agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas in Daraa Governorate. Under the deal, the opposition militants who agreed to hand over their heavy weapons were handed a settlement card and allowed to stay in Daraa, while those opposed the agreement would go to Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
