QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Soudade Kaadan, a Syrian filmmaker, won the Armani Beauty Audience Awards at Venice Film Festival 2022 for her film “Nezouh”.
Arts & culture said that the Audience Award, which is now in its second year, is given to the best film in the Orizzonti Extra section.
“The winner is decided by the votes cast by viewers of the films in this section, which was introduced in 2021 as an extension of Orizzonti,” Arts & Culture added.
Orizzonti is a competitive category dedicated to new trends in world cinema.
The story of the film is about a man, Mutaz, who refuses to flee Damascus, even as bombs fall, and to become a refugee. His wife, Hala, and daughter, Zeina, have to decide whether to stay or leave the country.
The film is an allegorical tale of female liberty, as the 14-year-old Zeina gets her first taste of freedom when a young boy lowers himself with a rope through a big hole in the roof of their house, opening up possibilities for her and her mother who both have an impossible choice to make.
