Gunmen kill SDF fighter, injure another in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DIER EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press)A fighter of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was killed on Sunday while another was wounded in a shooting by unidentified gunmen in a town west of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

A military source of the SDF in the town of Jazrat al-Milaj, west of Deir ez-Zor, told North Press, “Unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on two SDF fighters near the Euphrates River in the center of the town.”

“The attack killed the 26-year-old Yassin al-Sattam, and injured another SDF fighter,” the source said.

The wounded was transferred to a field hospital in the town, and “he is now in a critical condition,” the source added citing a doctor at the hospital as saying.

Following the assault, according to the source, the SDF immediately cordoned off the town and mobilized its forces to pursue the attackers.

Although the SDF launches intensive security operations, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has recently witnessed an increase in killing incidents carried out against SDF fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration, tribal figures and civil residents.

On Saturday, unknown attackers targeted a military headquarters of the SDF in the town of Hammar al-Ali, west of Deir ez-Zor, causing material damage but no casualties.
