Authorities arrest involved in incident of collapsed building in Aleppo

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, Police Command in the city of Aleppo announced the arrest a group of those involved in constructing a building that collapsed with residents inside in al-Fardos neighborhood east of Aleppo, north Syria, two days ago.

An exclusive source of the Police Command told North Press, “Those responsible for constructing the building are the brothers Muhammad and Omar Aboud. They are now arrested and subjected to investigation, while the other partners Ahmad and Jamal are fleeing.”

The four brothers have an office for building and general contracting in the neighborhood, and they disappeared when the building collapsed.

The source added, “Authorities concerned traced their cellphones to identify their places and those who contact them. Yesterday, one of their sons and a partner were arrested, and during the past hours, the security apparatuses managed to trace their calls and arrest them.”

“The arrestees contacted those supporting them from Aleppo municipality, and the investigations will reveal all the involved in this crime,” the source added.

A five-storey building collapsed on September 8 in al-Fardos neighborhood, killing more than 11 people, including seven women, three children and an elderly man.

A resident from the neighborhood told North Press that a committee of engineers visited the site of the incident, and another said that a warrant for evacuation and demolition was issued regarding the building.

The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, denied that any warrant had been issued to demolish the building since it is a newly built building.

It noted that engineering especial teams visited the neighborhood in 2019 and checked the harmed buildings, due to clashes between the Syrian government forces and the opposition factions that occurred in the neighborhood, for demolishing them.

On Its Facebook account, Aleppo Governorate, said that a committee was formed to check circumstances of the incident submitted a report, in which it said that aerial photographs revealed that the building had been constructed in the second half of 2020.

Meanwhile another report said that the building had been constructed without licensing, supervision or studying, and that it is situated in an illegal area, and the constructing materials violate standard of constructing.
