QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Directors of both Syrian and Turkish intelligence met through Russian mediation, a French website said on Thursday.
Ali Mamlouk, Director of the National Security Bureau of Syria, and Hakan Fidan, Undersecretary of the National Intelligence Organization of Turkey held a meeting through a Russian mediation, said Intelligence Online, a French intelligence website, on Thursday.
The website did not share information about any face-to-face or online meeting between the two directors.
However, the website reported “unsatisfactory” results of the meeting, noting that it “at least allowed the two sides to determine their demands and present their terms to each other.”
It said that Moscow sponsored the meeting as part of its efforts to “play the role of a mediator” between Syria and Turkey.
Speaking to reporters on the final day of the 13th Ambassadors Conference in Ankara on August 11, Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu said that he had held a brief chat with his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Mekdad during the meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement meeting in the Serbian capital Belgrade, which took place on October 11, 2021.
