Russian escalation leaves casualties in Syria’s Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Seven people were killed and 12 others were wounded on Thursday due to Russian airstrike on villages and towns of the northern countryside of Idlib, northwest Syria.
This coincided with mutual shelling between armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), and Syrian government forces in the area.
A local source told North Press that Russian warplanes launched 16 air raids on the outskirts of Idlib city and the villages and towns of Sheikh Youssef, Hafsarja and al-Ghafrah in Sahl al-Rouj area, west of Idlib Governorate.
The raids targeted houses near the village of Hafsarja, killing seven people and wounding about 12 others with varying degrees of severity. The civil defense teams worked on taking them to the medical centers near the area, the source added.
Meanwhile, a military source of the SNA told North Press that the government forces targeted, with heavy artillery and missiles, the villages and towns of al-Fatterah, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra, and the outskirts of al-Bara in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib.
The SNA responded to today’s escalation by targeting posts of the Syrian government forces in the city of Saraqib, east of Idlib, and the cities of Kafr Nabl and Maarat al-Numan in the south of Idlib Governorate.
