Teachers in Aleppo countryside protest low salaries amid calls for strike
AZAZ, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, teachers in the city of Azaz in north of Aleppo organized a protest in front of the Education Directorate in the city demanding improvements being made to the schooling arena and a rise in salaries.
A source told North Press that tens of teachers gathered in front of the Education Directorate in the city demanding improvements and rise to their salaries due to the deteriorating schooling conditions in the region.
The first term of the academic year commences next Sunday amid calls for strike in areas held by the opposition factions.
The city of Azaz in Aleppo northern countryside has been under the control of the Turkish-backed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), since July 2012.
The source added that the protesters hold banners calling for improvements amid threats of more protests at the commencement of the academic year due to deteriorating conditions of the schooling process and low salaries.
Education Directorates and schools in areas under the control of the opposition in the countryside of Aleppo are attached to the Education and Training Directorate in Kilis province, southern Turkey, where Turkish is taught as a basic language in the region.
