US official refuses Turkish attacks, supports stability in NE Syria  

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – US Senior Representative to Northeast Syria, Nikolas Granger, said on Wednesday that they support the stability of the region and refuse Turkish attacks.

This came during his visit to the headquarters of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in the city of Qamishli, northeast Syria, in the presence of other Kurdish political parties.

During the meeting, the two parties talked about the current situation, the recent Turkish escalation and its impact on the future of the region, especially with the escalation of drone attacks, the PYD official website reported. 

Recently, Turkish forces has escalated their attacks, whether artillery shelling or drone strikes, on the cities and towns of northern Syria, targeting populated areas including the bazaar in Tel Rifaat town in the northern countryside of Aleppo and the al-Sina’a neighborhood (industrial zone) of Qamishli.  

The Democratic Union Party (PYD) was established on 20 September 2003 in northeast Syria. 

PYD describes itself as believing in social equality, justice and the freedom of belief as well as pluralism and the freedom of political parties.

On September 5, Granger met with Ilham Ahmad, President of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) where he stressed the importance of all Syrian parties to participate in resolving the Syrian crisis. 

On August 31, Granger visited Hawl Camp in northeastern Syria to check the anti-ISIS security campaign launched by the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish).

He also visited the Department of Foreign Relations of the AANES in Qamishli city where he met Badran Chia Kurd, co-chair of the department.
