DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, drones of Syrian government forces hovered over the town of Jassem in the north of Daraa, southern Syria, a day after the town was threatened to be stormed.
A local source told North Press that two drones of the government forces hovered over the town in the early hours of the day amid a cautions calm in line with military moves in areas around the town.
The source added that trade was reduced within the town after traders no longer bring foods due to fears the town could be stormed at any time.
Locals of Jassem voice fears that recent moves could mark the onset of a siege and conducting a military operation similar to the one carried out in Tafas, in the western countryside of Daraa weeks ago.
On Wednesday, the Syrian government threatened in a meeting with representatives of the town to storm Jassem unless demand to exit “strangers” from the town is met, the one that was denied by representatives of the town.
The term “strangers” which is employed for the very first time by the government delegation refers to those rejecting settlement with the government, according to a source attended the meeting.
In the last two weeks, the Syrian government deployed military reinforcements to the outskirts of the town of Jassem positioning on the agrarian lands around the town and forbidding locals to reach out to their fields.
