US-led Coalition provide Syria’s AANES in Hasakah with 13 water tankers

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, Civil Affairs Team of the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS handed over the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) 13 water tankers to provide drinking water to the city of Hasakah, northeast Syria.

Farouq Tozo, deputy co-chair of Hasakah Region Council, affiliated with the AANES, told North Press that they received 13 tankers to provide Hasakah with drinking water, adding, “The tankers were provided by the Civil Affairs Team of the Coalition.”

Alouk water pumping station, which is the main source of water for Hasakah and its countryside, has been controlled by Turkey and its affiliated armed opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), since the Turkish invasion of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad in October 2019. Since then, Turkey has cut off water to Hasakah for 27 times, according to official statements by the AANES.

About a month ago, Turkey has cut off drinking water to Hasakah, depriving all the city’s residents of water ever since.

The capacity of each tanker is 20.000 liters. They will only be used for delivering drinking water to the neighborhoods of Hasakah in light of the frequent outage to the city, according to Tozo.

Tozo pointed out that they would hand the tankers to the Water Directorate so it can carry out its work of providing the residents with drinking water.

To obtain drinking water, the residents of Hasakah has no choice but to rely on water tankers, which are filled from wells located in the city’s countryside. Most of these tankers are private, forcing the residents to pay in order to be able to drink clean water.
