Turkey shells villages in Syria’s Tel Abyad countryside
AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces and their affiliated Syrian opposition factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA), targeted on Wednesday villages in the western countryside of Tel Abyad, a city in northern Syria.
A local source told North Press villages in the countryside of Tel Abyad including Kor Hassan, Swani and khirbat Baqr were targeted with artillery and mortars.
“The shelling began intermittently and several shells fell in the vicinity of the aforementioned villages, causing material damage,” the source added.
On August 31, a civilian car was targeted by Turkish forces while travelling on a highway in the vicinity of the village of Hoshan, causing only material causalities.
Villages and towns in the northern countryside of Raqqa are being shelled on a daily basis by Turkish forces and their affiliated SNA factions.
The town of Ain Issa and other areas in northern Syria are subjected to successive bombardment by the Turkish forces and their SNA allies.
In October 2019, the Turkish forces launched a military operation called “Peace Spring” against the majority-Kurdish areas of Tel Abyad and Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in northeast Syria.
The operation, which was conducted with the support of Turkish-backed factions of the opposition-aligned SNA, caused the internal displacement of over 300,000 individuals.
