Syrian Islamic Opposition Council bans economic dealing with Iran
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Syrian Islamic Opposition Council passed on Tuesday a Fatwa [a legal ruling on a point of Islamic law] regarding dealing with Iranian goods in the areas held by Syrian opposition factions in northwest Syria.
Syrian Fatwa Council of the Islamic Council said, in a statement, that the Fatwa, signed by 15 of the council’s members, bans economic dealing with Iran, including importation and exportation.
The statement indicated, “Buying and selling Iranian goods strengthen and revive Iran’s economically, thus it may lead to accepting normalization with it.”
Compared to other goods, Iranian goods are relatively cheaper, the thing that increased demands for them despite low quality, according to reports prepared by North Press correspondents.
Some of the goods enter from the areas held by Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) in Afrin and the Euphrates Shield areas, through smuggling routes, coming from Syrian government held-areas.
Some others enter based on coordination between traders working in the government held-areas and leaders of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front).
They come from contact lines in both the eastern countryside of Idlib and western countryside of Aleppo, in exchange for huge sums of money paid to facilitate the trucks’ crossing.
Additionally, a part of the Iranian goods enter through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey.
In late 2017, Salvation Government [the civilian wing of HTS in Idlib and Aleppo countryside] banned importing both Russian and Iranian goods, according to reports.
