Turkish shelling wounds government soldier north of Syria’s Raqqa
AIN ISSA, Syria (North Press) – A soldier of Syrian government forces was injured on Tuesday in Turkish shelling targeting the western countryside of Tel Abyad, a city in northern Syria.
A local source told North Press that the village of Kor Hassan, west of Tel Abyad in Raqaa northern countryside, was subjected to artillery and mortar shelling by the Turkish forces and their affiliated opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA).
“The village, which contains a military headquarters of the Syrian government forces, was hit by several shells, injuring a soldier and damaging the residents’ homes,” the source said.
The source added, “The soldier, Abdullah Maher Samaan, was wounded in the Turkish shelling and subsequently transferred to Omar Alloush Hospital in the town of Ain Issa.”
Another source from the town of Ain Issa stated that a “Turkish drone is currently hovering over the villages located in the countryside of Tel Tamr town, north of Hasakah, all the way to Ain Issa in the north of Raqqa.”
The town of Ain Issa and other areas in northern Syria are subjected to repeated bombardment by the Turkish forces and their SNA allies.
In October 2019, the Turkish forces supported by SNA factions, launched Operation “Peace Spring” in northeastern Syria, through which Turkey occupied the areas of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) and Tel Abyad.
