Unidentified gunmen kill man east of Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A man was shot dead on Monday by unidentified militants in a town in east of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
A local source from the town of Gharanij in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, told North Press that masked gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on the car of the young man Kheleif al-Hayes, killing him instantly.
The source added the attackers fled the town after carrying out the operation.
Al-Hayes hailed from the town of Gharanij and was not affiliated with any political or military faction, according to the source.
Unlike the neighboring villages, the source said, the town of Gharanij has not witnessed any assassination incident for more than two years.
The countryside of Deir ez-Zor witnesses a spike in assassinations, targeting fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), tribal leaders and civilians, despite the intensive security operations launched by the SDF.
On Sunday, unknown militants shot a child to death and injured his mother in the town of al-Hariji in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
