Child killed, woman injured north of Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Unknown militants shot a child to death and injured his mother on Sunday in a town north of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A local source from the town of al-Hariji in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor said, militants who were riding a motorbike fired at Bilal al-Dahash, 13, and his mother close to their house in al-Hariji, about 70 km to the north of Deir ez-Zor.  

The firing resulted in the killing of the child and the injury of his mother who was taken to a medication center in the town, the source added.

Doctors said, “She is in a good condition,” while the two militants fled.   

Although the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launches intensive security operations, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has recently witnessed an increase in killing incidents carried out against SDF members, employees of the Autonomous Administration, tribal figures and civil residents.

The SDF keeps pursuing ISIS sleeper cells in Deir ez-Zor eastern countryside with the aim to maintain security and stability of the region.

On August 28, ISIS claimed responsibility for targeting a fighter of the SDF in the town of al-Suwar, north of Deir ez-Zor.
